If you love flavorful terpenes, then you’ll love live resin sauce.
Live resin is a tasty way to experience cannabis concentrates. It has high terpene content, thanks to its sauce being a high terpene full-spectrum extract.
It is used to make a lot of cannabis products like dabs, vape cartridges, and edibles.
We’re here to discuss what live resin sauce is, how it’s made, how it’s used, and why the cannabis market loves it so much.
WHAT IS LIVE RESIN SAUCE?
One of the most popular cannabis extracts in the world is live resin.
Live resin is a saucy-textured cannabis concentrate made up of THCa diamonds and terp sauce. Terp sauce, or live resin sauce, is the liquid part of live resin.
The sauce is the high terpene extract that is full of the molecules that give cannabis strains their smell, taste, and likely effects.
Together, diamonds and sauce form a highly potent extract with big-time flavor, thanks to all those terpenes, and big-time potency, thanks to a high concentration of cannabinoids.
If you’re going to consume any cannabis, two terms you should definitely be familiar with are cannabinoids and terpenes.
Cannabinoids are the plant compounds that bind to our CB1 and CB2 receptors. They produce the effects you feel from weed.
THC, CBD, CBG, and CBN are among the many cannabis compounds we call cannabinoids.
Terpenes are important. When you sniff some Pink Rosay oil and say “Oh, that smells like sweet flowers,” it’s because of the oil’s terpene profile.
When consuming cannabis concentrates, it’s imperative to use something with big terps and big potency.
Live resin is rich with terpenes, which give you flavor and fragrance.
HOW IS LIVE RESIN SAUCE MADE?
Live resin differs from cured resin by its plant material. Live concentrates start with fresh frozen plant material, versus cured resin that is made from dried and cured plants.
Step 1 to making live resin is freezing freshly harvested plants. This is where the “live” in live resin comes from. Freshly harvested plants that aren’t dried and cured are called “live”.
For making live resin sauce, processes leave plants frozen for 24 to 36 hours, then wash it through chemical solvents to grab those terpene-filled trichomes from the plant.
Once you freeze the plants, Step 2 is you then run through them an extraction process to separate the trichomes from the frozen plants.
Butane and ethanol are commonly used solvents for live resin. Sometimes manufacturers use a blend of the two.
The solvents must be chilled to preserve the terpenes in the cannabis plant. Terpenes are the most important part of the equation.
Once separated, trichomes are then processed through high-quality extraction machines to turn those trichomes into a flavorful cannabis extract.
That extract is live resin, complete with live resin diamonds and live resin sauce. This process is done through heat and pressure, and purging residual solvents from the concentrate.
Depending on how much heat and pressure are applied to the extract, this process will result in different textures like live resin sugar, live resin sap, live resin budder, and of course, live resin sauce.
HOW TO CONSUME LIVE RESIN SAUCE
You’ll be either dabbing live resin or vaping it. If you’re dabbing straight terp sauce, the potency will be absent, but the flavor will be there.
To get the best of both worlds, choose a curated live resin that has both diamonds and sauce.
If you’re vaping live resin sauce, you just need a vape battery that can heat the oil to the point of vaporization.
Live resin sauce can be a little bit thick by itself, thus needing a higher temperature to melt it up.
Ever used a dab pen to consume live resin sauce and diamonds?
HOW TO DAB LIVE RESIN SAUCE
For dabbing, you need these accessories:
- Dab rig
- Dab tool
- Carb cap
- Dab nail/banger
- Extracts, obviously
The dabbing process is pretty simple.
STEP 1: OPEN CANNABIS EXTRACTS, GLOB THEM UP
Scoop up a glob of live resin sauce plus diamonds onto your dab tool.
STEP 2: TORCH YOUR BANGER
If you’re using an e-nail or an electronic dab rig, like the Daab Ispire or Puffco Peak Pro, you won’t need a torch. If you’re using an actual tabletop dab rig, you do need one.
Torch your banger until it is super hot, and then let it sit to cool down before you take a dab.
STEP 3: INHALE YOUR DABS AT A GOOD TEMPERATURE
The most important part of dabbing some high-quality live resin is getting the temperature right.
You never want to take hot dabs that burn off your terpenes and leave a harsh, cough-inducing, type of vapor on your throat.
There are multiple devices that help you get your terp temperatures right. The Terpometer is a great example of these devices.
STEP 4: CARB CAP YOUR BANGER
Carb caps are little glass/ceramic balls that help manage the heat and airflow in your banger when you’re dabbing some live resin sauce or live resin diamonds. Use one to maximize the potential of your dabs.
STEP 5: CLEAN YOUR BANGER
Once you’ve taken in as much live resin vapor as you can, clean your dab banger with a cotton swab to remove any leftover residue. It’s important.
A properly cleaned dab banger will make sure the next dab session isn’t influenced by your past sessions.
HOW TO STORE LIVE RESIN SAUCE
Light, high temperatures, and oxidation will degrade the quality of your cannabis products.
Because of such, always store any of your live resin concentrates in a dark, cool environment in an airtight container.
A dark drawer or cabinet will work. So will a refrigerator. With refrigerated dabs, make sure to let them come to room temperature before dabbing.
WHY DO PEOPLE LOVE LIVE RESIN SAUCE?
People love live resin because it tastes like flavorful terpenes and gets you really high. Live resin sauce, specifically, is where live resin’s terpene profile lives.
So the reason people love live resin sauce is for the flavors they taste when dabbing or vaping live resin.
Live resin products aren’t solventless concentrates, so dab snobs may turn their noses up at it, but there are some really great live resin extracts out there.
The benefits of live resin are that you aren’t smoking plant matter, which smooths the consumption experience.
Plus, you’re getting big-time terpenes and big-time potency, which gives you a very enjoyable high. Plus, you can also consume it on the go. Live resin vape pens are available by the plenty.
With its diamonds and sauce, you get the entourage effects of cannabis. The entourage effect refers to the combination of cannabinoids, terpenes, and the rest of the plant’s compounds to produce a complete experience.
When the cannabis strain’s complete profile is present, you can fully experience all of its aromas, flavors, and effects.
So if you’re looking to try some Bubblegum Gelato terps, but don’t want to burn cannabis flower and inhale harmful smoke, some curated live resin is a great purchase.
HOW MUCH IS LIVE RESIN SAUCE
Live resin, regardless of its texture, still has a pretty standard price. For the most part, you can get some live resin dabs from most dispensaries for somewhere between $25-$50 per gram.
That is the appeal of live resin: you can get it for a cheaper price than solventless rosin badders and rosin jams, and still get a full flavor experience.
